The march will take place at 2 p.m. Friday on the steps of the Indiana Statehouse.
Covington students will participate in the walkout with two co-sponsored student-led “March for Our Lives” vigils.
A vigil in front of Covington High School will take place at 9 a.m. Friday and another will take place at the same time but at the Williams-Walterton Community Center.
Other Covington students that will take part in the march are in grades 10-12.
“We were approached by the students at the high school and they said they wanted to participate in the walkout and we said we would too,” Covington High School Principal Don Graham said.
Covington students are also organizing a “March for Our Lives” sit-in at the Covington school Monday afternoon in support of the national student walkout on Friday.
“This is a really important topic for our school and for our country. We want to be a part of the conversation. I hope our voice is heard,” Graham said.
The students will walk out at 10 a.m. Monday and sit down at 1 p.m. to express their opinions on the school and gun violence.
Graham said the school is considering this protest as another example of the cultural change happening in the country.
“Our community is very much on edge. Our students are more aware of what’s going on in the world,” Graham said.
Although Graham said he doesn’t think the walkout will generate many issues within the school, he does want to encourage students to participate in activities beyond the walkout itself.
“I think it’s important for our students to have voice and I would like them to have a voice in the school and to be ac619d1d87
